Winter Tips for Alexandria Property Management Professionals

If you own an Alexandria property management company then you know how much work is required in order to properly take care of them - all year. While the winter months seem to cause people to slow down and spend more time indoors, this is not a slow time of year for professional managers working for various Alexandria property management companies.

You may be new to real estate investing and don't know everything that needs to be done in order to prepare for the winter months. In this case, what you don't know can hurt you. Therefore, read through the following tips carefully and implement them in your routine before winter arrives. To give you an idea of how beneficial these tips are, consider the fact that many Alexandria property management firms do them every fall for their clients to ensure the winter months come and go with few incidents.

  1. Conduct an In-Home Inspection. It should be a normal practice for your Alexandria property management company to hold routine inspections at least twice a year for each rental you manage. One of the two inspections should take place right before winter arrives. During this inspection, Alexandria property management professionals should inspect the seals on the windows and doors, make sure the chimneys are cleaned out, fire up the furnace to make sure it works, etc. while looking for any maintenance problems.

  2. Test Smoke Detectors and Replace Batteries. Most Alexandria property management companies take the time to check all of the smoke detectors in their rental properties during this time too. If you come across any that aren't working, try replacing the batteries and if they still don't work then it's time to replace the smoke detector. You do not want a fire to occur in the middle of the night and the fire detectors not to go off - the results could be devastating.

  3. Leave an Ice-Melting Agent for Tenants. As you probably already know, the winter months can be brutal with the ice and snow that can accumulate during this time. To help ensure their tenants' safety a lot of Alexandria property management firms leave an ice-melting agent with each of their tenants so they will have something handy to spread on their walkways when snow and ice are on the way. If you don't have a lot of rentals, then you might consider doing something a little extra and providing your tenants with a snow shovel as well.
